Burroughs in his final years, stripped of mythology. This tee carries Kate Simon’s 1995 portrait from the last sitting she shot with him: the writer, smoking a joint, beneath a towering block-letter sign. The phrase had already surfaced on a 1982 Giorno Poetry Systems compilation that featured Burroughs, but this image is what made it his epitaph. The monochrome deadpan renders the piece a fitting item for readers of the Beats, cut-up literature and the industrial and underground music that was so inspired by his work.
